BETHESDA is a child support agency set up by Freedom Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to pioneering social change through poverty alleviation and wealth creation. The Ideals of Freedom Foundation are expressed through various units of change and Bethesda Child Support Agency is one of these units. The primary focus of the agency is providing scholarships to children from economically disadvantaged families whose parents are unable to accord them the benefit of a good education. OUR VISION To create for children an environment that fosters their dignity and enhances their future. OUR MISSION To mobilize community resources with the assistance of partners to help children from impoverished backgrounds secure a better future through education and in that way, break the generational cycle of poverty existing in their families. OUR DREAM The dream and driving force behind the Bethesda project is to see that all children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the society are provided with a qualitative educational environment that will help them grow, thrive and develop to their full potential. It is a known fact that more than half a billion children live in abject poverty, 121 million of these children are out of school and mostly on the streets. It is alarming to know that a huge bulk of this number come from developing nations such as ours. The message is indeed clear. Childhood is under threat! Since inception in September 2001, Bethesda has continued to work relentlessly to ameliorate the effect of this surging tragedy. With the collective efforts and support of individuals, corporate bodies, institutions and associations, we have made a good attempt. The goal is far from being realized but undoubtedly a certain degree of progress has been made. We have put children on scholarships in various schools around Lagos and have set up two child-friendly schools at Ikota and Bariga Communities of Lagos State. We plan to set up more schools and to put more children on scholarships as well.
